Rosatom supplies the first lot of cobalt-60 sources to China
It is one of the most widely used sources of gamma radiation, the demand for which is growing from year to year.
Isotope JSC (part of Rosatom's Health Technologies Division) has made a pilot shipment of cobalt-60 isotope sources, produced by FSUE MAYAK PA, to its Chinese partners.
The supply was preceded by coordinated work of Russian and Chinese specialists to obtain appropriate permission to deliver the key cargo and agree on the procedure for returning shipping containers after unloading the sources.
Cobalt-60 is one of the most widely used sources of gamma radiation, the demand for which is growing from year to year. Sources based on this isotope are used for sterilization of food products, medical instruments and materials, disinfection and purification of industrial waste, modification of polymers, etc.
The supply of the first lot of the sources will allow Chinese partners to resume work at irradiation centers and establish long-term relationships regarding the supply of these in-demand products.
